Father's Day Breakfast

Yesterday we celebrated Father's Day with Marist by holding a Father's Day Breakfast. We had a great morning and everyone loved their bacon and eggs rolls. Mrs Andre, Mrs Wong and Ms Yeats were ready for action at the BBQ with the Marist boys and got cooking nice and early. Parents and friends then joined us at church for the Father's Day Mass. What a fantastic way to start our day.

Kindy's Veggie Patch Update

Today we opened our shop for business after another hard days work in "Kindy's Veggie Patch". We spent part of the day collecting fresh lettuce and peas from our garden. With spring soon approaching we planted some new vegetables too. Now we are growing cucumbers, corn, tomatoes and carrots. It's just a matter of time before we have some new seedlings.

Story Maps

On Friday Kindergarten read "Muddle in a Puddle". We loved the story so much that we created story maps based on the book. Some of us used labels and pictures to retell what happened in the story. At the end of the lesson we presented our maps to the class. We amazed Miss Burgess with how clever we all are!

Early Years Assessment Trial

As a part of the Early Years Project our school was selected to take part in an assessment trial. The children have been looking at Snugglepot and Cuddlepie throughout the term. The children were asked to make, write or create something that could retell the story "Snugglepot and Cuddlepie mind the eggs." Kindergarten had a fantastic time playing and manipulating a range of materials to retell the story. Some children even made slight modifications to the story to make it more interesting. We certainly have a creative group of children!

Mini Olympics for Book Week

Today we celebrated Book Week with a Mini Olympics Day. We got to dress up as our favourite Olympian. Everyone spent the morning competing in special events such as gymnastics, relays, basketball, soccer, hurdles and darts. After recess we got to design our own Olympic Flag and show them to the class. We also got to have a picnic lunch with our friends and family. After that we went to the book fair to write our wish list with our buddies. To end the day we had the year 6 children read the shortlisted books from book week. It was a great day!

Buddy Reading

The Buddy Reading Program is a success. We are getting great feedback from parents and students. Thanks again to those children in year 5 and 6 who are volunteering there time before school.

YOGA

There is nothing we enjoy more on a Wednesday than Yoga!
We are learning so many poses. We can do the cat, cow, mountain, bridge, seal and child pose.

We have NEW classmates!

Last week we were lucky enough to receive a special gift from Jaime's Grandmother, Mrs Felice. She bought us 6 silk worms! Can you believe it?? We will get to take care of them and watch them change over the next few weeks. How exciting!

If you have any mulberry bushes at home, can you please send in some fresh leaves??

Maths Week 5

Area
This week we had a look at area. We measured the surface area of different items in our classroom using different objects. We found that large objects worked better when we measured the surface area of big things like tables.

Veggie Patch

Kindy's Veggie Patch

On Tuesday afternoon Kindergarten decided it was time to sell some of their vegetables from their veggie patch. We picked as much lettuce as we could and got a handful of snowpeas.

Kindergarten decided to name their shop "Kindy's Veggie Patch" and bags full of lettuce were sold for $2 each. We spent the afternoon making signs to attract customers. Evie, Harry, Daisy and Ethan were our shop keepers for the day and had to make sure that our customers paid their $2 before they left our shop.

Altogether Kindergarten made $16 towards a new supply of seeds and seedlings. We have decided to grow tomatoes, carrots and strawberries. We will need to do a little research to see if they will grow at this time of year.

A BIG THANK YOU to all the parents and grandparents that supported "Kindy's Veggie Patch" by buying some fresh produce today :)

What do you think we should grow in our vegetable garden at this time of year???

Bye Bye Ducklings

Our Last Day Together

Today was our last day with our little friends. We had a little play with them in the morning and said our good byes. At 12.30pm our ducks were picked up and taken back to Windsor. We got a little upset, but we know they are getting too big for us to take care of them anymore. We will miss them very much!

Year 5 have been doing a fantastic job of filming and recording the changes our ducklings have been going through. We can't wait to see the final product!

Buddy Reading Program

Hi Kindy Parents! Just a reminder that the Buddy Reading Program is starting next Monday the 6th of August at 8.40am. We are meeting in the cola area outside the infants classrooms.

Soccer

Kindy have been enjoying their soccer lessons with Coach Robbie. Each week they learn some new skills to help them out on the field.

Our Ducklings

Day 10 and 11

Our ducklings really enjoyed paddling in the tub over the past two days.We learnt that ducks have waterproof feathers and that a male duck is called a drake! We love learning new things in Kindy. Thanks Daisy!

For art this week, we made our own little ducklings using paper plates, cardboard and feathers. We have placed some around the room and up on our 'Meeting needs' wall.

We would love to learn some more about ducks. Feel free to leave a comment with  some duck facts below.
